This birch bark backpack, in Swedish is, called a ‘Naverkont’. A kont is an old style of basket that is worn like a backpack. Usually made of birch bark or sometimes wood splints. They were often, and still are, used for picking wild berries in the forest. These kind of woven backpacks originally came into use in Sweden in the 17th century.
