What is smoky quartz?
Smoky quartz is a translucent grey-brown to near-black variety of quartz, its color caused by natural irradiation of aluminum impurities within the crystal. In raw form, the stone retains its natural terminations and unpolished surfaces, giving each piece a direct, unmediated quality. Color depth and crystal form vary significantly between specimens.
